Communication Information
Communication between home and school is vital to your child’s success in the classroom. Parents are informed about school policies, procedures, academics, and events through a variety of channels.
- Monday Communication Folder: Each Monday, your child will bring home a Communication Folder containing information about school and district rules and procedures, behavior expectations, nightly reading, and other essential information. The folder is a weekly communication tool between home and school. Student completed work, behavior notes, newsletters, the reading logs and school-related information is accessed in this folder. The folder will go between home and school each week. The folder is returned to your child’s teacher every Tuesday morning. There is a form provided on the back of the folder for you to sign off stating you have received and reviewed the contents of the weekly folder. Please take the time to review, discuss, and reflect on any completed papers your child brings home
- Conferences: During parent conferences, teachers will discuss your child’s academic and social progress. Please feel free to call the school to schedule a conference with your child’s teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
- Interim Reports and Report Cards: Interim reports are sent home halfway through each nine weeks and reports are sent home each nine weeks
- Newsletters and Web-based Resources: During the year, parents stay informed through classroom notices and newsletters, principal’s notices, the school and district web site, and the web-based Parent Portal on PowerSchool.
- Volunteers and Chaperones: Teachers plan field trips that are specifically designed to enhance curriculum objectives. Sometimes we will need additional chaperones for a field trip. In order to chaperone, volunteers must have a completed background check on file with Florence School District One and be approved school volunteers to assist. These approved volunteers/chaperones are the only parents who can be officially invited to go on field trips with classes. This procedure applies to all field trips.
- Events such as “Meet Your Teacher,” “Family Fiesta Game Night,” “Math Under the Big Top’’, theme-related projects, Science Fair, parent nights, and celebrations are just some of the ways we will communicate this year.
Commnication Tips
Here at North Vista Elementary, we believe in parent and student communication. Here are a few communication tips to help increase communication at home:
-
Ask your child questions about what he/she learned in school that day. (“What did you learn in math today?” or “What stories are you reading in school?”)
-
Read to your child every day.
-
Check your child’s backpack daily for letters or flyers about upcoming events, which will be located in your child’s communication folder.
-
Call the school or email the principal or teacher if you have any questions or concerns.
-
Assist your child with homework assignments by creating a quiet environment to work.
We thank you for all that you do to support your child and our school!
Safety
Here are a few reminders that will help make your child’s safety and academic success top priority:
1. Our school day runs from 7:35 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. daily. Early drop off begins in the car rider area (front entrance) at 7:00 a.m. for those families who need to get to work. Even though you will see staff members here prior to 7:00 a.m., there is no one on duty to supervise your child until 7:00 a.m.
2. The tardy bell rings at 7:45 a.m. This means that students must be in their classrooms prior to 7:45 a.m. in order to be considered on time. Once the bell has rung, staff members on duty will proceed into the building. Please bring your child to the front office and sign them in.
3. We have specially made car rider tags that families must use. If you do not have your tag, or you send someone to pick up your child without the tag, you will be asked to proceed to the office. Here, you will be asked to provide an ID and be checked against the list of persons allowed to pick your child up. We take every precaution to ensure the safety of your child, so please be reminded of this expectation.
4. The last thing we would like to remind you of is the fact that the front parking lot is not a drop off or pick up area unless you are coming into the building to conduct business. In such case, please do not park behind other legally parked cars or stop in the middle of the driveway, but proceed to a parking space to park. The same is true about walkers. Walkers should not be dropped off or picked up from the parking lot. They must cross with the crossing guard and proceed to the front entrance/gate of the building. These things may seem insignificant, but they pose safety concerns when there is extra, unnecessary traffic in the front parking lot.
5. All car riders should be picked up by 2:30 p.m.
Thank you for your attention to these matters as we continue to move to higher levels of achievement!
